Melissa Alvey
I am a multi-racial Asian American art psychotherapist. My approach to therapy is one that is strengths-based, client-centered, and trauma-informed—whether that be reckoning with systemic oppression, intergenerational trauma, religious trauma, or complex trauma.
Oftentimes, I find that questions of identity, belonging, purpose, and meaning arise while in the midst of a season of physical or emotional pain, uncertainty, grief, or navigating a transition in life. My approach to therapy is to support you as you discover your own creative skills as a healer.
Art therapy is a non-verbal means of expression, providing a safe and grounding means to process emotions, experiences, and memories (especially those connected to trauma). As an artist and art therapist, I regard clients as fellow creatives who are on their own uniquely paced journey of discovering themselves as their own healer, making sense and creating meaning of their own lived experience.
